NEW SKODA is really SUPERB

Skoda are the most improved car firm in the world, but the Superb is one hell of a moniker to live up to.

Stylish...the cabin is bathed in leather, wood and chrome trim, and the interior is vast. In the back there is even a Bentley style footrest because you can stretch your legs a good distance.

Standard equipment goes from 'adequate' on the entry level S to exec impressive on the top of the line Elegance, including heated leather/electric seats, sat nav, individual climate control and cruise control. There's even an umbrella holder in the rear door.

The big innovation is the twin door, a unique tailgate operation that allows you to open the boot like a saloon for smaller items or by pressing a second button to lift the entire tailgate - including the rear window - just like a hatchback.

The end result is a HUGE boot that offers 565 litres - up 85 litres - to a massive 1670 litres with the rear seats down.

On the road the Superb is a very competent performer and an ideal long distance motorway cruiser, benefiting from the latest generation Volkswagen engines and the option of the new seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox from the Audi TT.
